Building Community Well-Being

The mission of Pinetree Institute is to strengthen the well-being of communities by building collaborative approaches to prevention, mental health and recovery, supported by trauma-responsive education.

How We Strengthen Communities

Our work focuses on three interconnected areas that support prevention, strengthen recovery pathways, and expand trauma-responsive practices in communities.

All of our work is rooted in collaborative partnership and trauma-responsive principles that promote prevention, recovery, and well-being across our communities.

Communities across Maine and the Seacoast region are facing complex challenges that affect the health and well-being of individuals and families. Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), trauma, and substance use have lasting impacts on health, education, and economic stability.

Addressing these challenges requires more than individual programs. It requires communities working together to strengthen prevention, support recovery, and create environments where people can thrive.

Pinetree Institute advances collaborative solutions that help communities respond to trauma, strengthen resilience, and promote long-term well-being.

Across our work, we partner with communities to create measurable change—strengthening prevention, supporting recovery, and building trauma-responsive systems.

Featured Initiative

Maine Recovery Friendly Workplaces (RFWs) support their communities by recognizing recovery from a substance use disorder as a strength and by working intentionally with people in recovery. RFWs encourage a healthy and safe environment where employers, employees, and communities can collaborate to create positive change and eliminate barriers for those impacted by addiction.
