Building Community Well-Being
The mission of Pinetree Institute is to strengthen the well-being of communities by building collaborative approaches to prevention, mental health and recovery, supported by trauma-responsive education.
How We Strengthen Communities
Our work focuses on three interconnected areas that support prevention, strengthen recovery pathways, and expand trauma-responsive practices in communities.

PREVENTION AND YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
We strengthen communities by investing in youth-centered positive experiences and prevention.
Pinetree partners with schools, families, and community leaders to support initiatives that reduce risk, strengthen protective factors, and create safer environments for youth and families.

COMMUNITY-BASED RECOVERY
We build recoverysupportive communities and strengthen connections to resources for people in recovery
Through initiatives such as Recovery Friendly Workplace, the Greater Portsmouth Recovery Coalition, and Recovery Ready York County, we bring partners together to reduce stigma and expand opportunity.

Positive Engagement Education
We educate communities on positive experiences that build resilience and buffer the impact of Adverse Childhood Experience (ACEs)
Through ACEs/PCE education, the Positive Experience Certificate Program, and professional development opportunities, we equip communities with tools to create positive environments.
All of our work is rooted in collaborative partnership and trauma-responsive principles that promote prevention, recovery, and well-being across our communities.

Matters
Communities across Maine and the Seacoast region are facing complex challenges that affect the health and well-being of individuals and families. Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), trauma, and substance use have lasting impacts on health, education, and economic stability.
Addressing these challenges requires more than individual programs. It requires communities working together to strengthen prevention, support recovery, and create environments where people can thrive.
Pinetree Institute advances collaborative solutions that help communities respond to trauma, strengthen resilience, and promote long-term well-being.
Our Impact in Action
Across our work, we partner with communities to create measurable change—strengthening prevention, supporting recovery, and building trauma-responsive systems.

Featured Initiative
Maine Recovery Friendly Workplaces (RFWs) support their communities by recognizing recovery from a substance use disorder as a strength and by working intentionally with people in recovery. RFWs encourage a healthy and safe environment where employers, employees, and communities can collaborate to create positive change and eliminate barriers for those impacted by addiction.
